KHAVDA, GUJARAT — A devastating head-on collision between a heavy truck and a Mahindra Bolero Camper van in Gujarat’s Kutch district left seven workers dead and 22 others injured. The fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Friday along the main access road leading to the massive Khavda Renewable Energy (RE) Park near the India-Pakistan border.
According to local authorities, the collision took place between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM as workers were commuting within the sprawling clean energy installation. The camper van—carrying over 20 workers—was struck head-on by a oncoming heavy vehicle.
The impact crushed the pickup van, trapping several workers inside the wreckage. Due to the severity of the crash, one vehicle mounted the other, forcing emergency teams to mobilize heavy machinery to pry the mangled frames apart.
Police personnel stationed at the RE Park checkpost rushed to the scene immediately following the crash. Rescuers deployed a crane to separate the entwined vehicles and extract seven victims trapped inside the camper. All seven were pronounced dead at the scene.
"The collision was extraordinarily severe. Due to the nature of the accident, one vehicle toppled over the other. Police personnel arranged a crane to separate the wreckage and retrieve the victims." — Vikas Sunda, Superintendent of Police, Kutch West
Ambulances transported the 22 injured workers to G K General Hospital in Bhuj, located roughly 136 km away, where several remain under medical treatment. Top regional officials, including District Collector Anil Ranavasia and SP Vikas Sunda, visited the hospital to assess the victims' conditions.
Local police at the Dhordo and Khavda stations have registered a case against the truck driver and initiated a detailed investigation into potential negligence, excessive speeding, or poor visibility along the road.
The incident stands as one of the deadliest traffic accidents recorded near the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, highlighting growing concerns over commuter safety and vehicle overcrowding for industrial workers in the region.
