Tragedy in Gujarat: 7 Dead as SUV Slams into Parked Truck in Bhavnagar

BHAVNAGAR, GUJARAT — A devastating road accident claimed the lives of seven people early on Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026 after a high-speed SUV rammed into a stationary truck parked along a highway in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar district.

Emergency services rushed to the scene following frantic calls from passing motorists who witnessed the horrific collision. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the SUV was completely crushed beneath the rear of the heavy truck, trapping several occupants inside the wreckage.

Local police, alongside rescue teams and bystanders, worked extensively to pull the victims from the crushed vehicle using specialized cutting equipment. Despite the swift response, six individuals were pronounced dead at the scene due to fatal injuries sustained during the crash, while a seventh victim succumbed to injuries shortly after arriving at a nearby government hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control or failed to notice the parked vehicle on the roadside in time. Authorities are currently examining whether poor visibility, fatigue, or excessive speed contributed to the crash.

"We have registered a case and an investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the collision," stated a senior police officer from the Bhavnagar district department. "The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations, and efforts are ongoing to contact and notify the bereaved families."

Local residents and highway commuters have frequently raised concerns about heavy commercial vehicles parking illegally along shoulder lanes, creating hazardous obstacles for oncoming traffic. State transport authorities have assured that strict measures will be taken against improperly parked vehicles along major corridors to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

In response to the tragic loss of life, district administration officials announced plans to set up emergency highway patrols and enforce stricter night-time inspection drives targeting illegally parked heavy vehicles. Local community members have also gathered near the hospital to support grieving family members arriving from neighboring villages, as regional political leaders expressed condolences and urged driver caution on high-speed roadways.
