Tragedy in Bharuch: 4 Dead, 2 Injured Following Blast at Pharmaceutical Plant in Saykha GIDC

BHARUCH, GUJARAT — A powerful explosion ripped through a chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in the Saykha Industrial Estate in Vagra Taluka, Bharuch district, leaving at least four workers dead and two others severely injured.

The blast triggered a localized fire and structural damage within the plant, prompting an immediate emergency response from industrial safety teams, local police, and fire services.

According to initial reports from local authorities, the incident occurred during routine production activities at the manufacturing unit within the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) Saykha block.

The force of the explosion shattered equipment and scattered debris across the immediate work area. Workers inside the section suffered direct blast impacts and burns before emergency crews could reach the site.

Rescue personnel rushed to the scene immediately following alerts from nearby plant workers and industrial site security. Four factory workers died on the spot due to severe trauma and burn injuries, while two injured individuals were stabilized by paramedics before being rushed to a multi-specialty hospital in Bharuch for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, fire tenders stationed within the GIDC estate quickly brought the resulting flames under control to prevent secondary chemical reactions.

Local police, along with officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) and the forensic science laboratory, have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the precise cause of the blast.

Preliminary assessments suggest the explosion may have stemmed from a sudden pressure build-up or chemical reaction in one of the processing reactors, though authorities emphasize that a detailed probe will establish whether safety protocols were breached.

In response to the incident, regional industrial safety authorities have ordered an immediate safety audit across nearby manufacturing units in the GIDC block to ensure all high-pressure vessels and chemical reactors comply with standard operational protocols. Local labor representatives and worker unions have also urged government officials to provide swift financial compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure strict enforcement of workplace safety regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
