Tragedy at the Waterfront: Police Recover Body Near Te Papa Museum

WELLINGTON — A major search and rescue operation along the Wellington waterfront ended in tragedy on Sunday morning, July 5, 2026 after police successfully recovered the body of a man from the harbor. The emergency response was initially triggered following urgent reports of a man seen entering the water near the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
