Traffic Alert: Major Crash Near Tsung Pak Long Leaves Truck Overturned on Fanling Highway

HONG KONG — A major traffic accident disrupted the Wednesday morning rush hour on July 22, 2026, after a coach and a truck collided on the Fanling Highway. The violent impact left the truck flipped on its side, triggering severe traffic delays across New Territories transport corridors.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:07 AM near Tsung Pak Long in Sheung Shui. According to initial police reports, a coach heading along the highway struck a light goods vehicle that had reportedly broken down on the road.

The force of the collision caused the truck to overturn completely, coming to a rest on its side across the busy thoroughfare. Meanwhile, the coach veered into a row of water-filled barriers along the roadside before grinding to a halt.

Emergency services, including firefighters and police personnel, rushed to the scene. The 45-year-old coach driver found himself briefly trapped inside the damaged cabin before being successfully extracted by emergency workers. Miraculously, despite the severity of the impact, the 62-year-old truck driver managed to crawl out of his overturned vehicle unassisted. Officials later confirmed that neither driver nor any passengers required hospital treatment.

While the miracle escape meant no serious injuries were reported, the crash caused significant logistical chaos for thousands of early morning commuters.

By 9:00 AM, the resulting traffic tailback had extended significantly, stretching all the way back to the San Tin Highway near Fairview Park.

The Transport Department acted quickly to close several affected lanes on the Fanling Highway heading towards Tai Po near Tsung Pak Long to facilitate vehicle recovery and clean-up operations.

Authorities have strongly advised motorists to expect continued delays as the backlog of vehicles slowly disperses. Bus services operating along the Fanling Highway corridor have experienced substantial disruptions. Commuters heading towards Tai Po and urban areas are highly encouraged to consider alternative public transport options, such as the MTR, until the scene is entirely cleared.

An investigation into the exact cause of the collision is currently underway by the police traffic division.
