Trade Unions Push for EU Law to Address Menopause at Work

The European Trade Union Confederation is urging the EU to recognize menopause in workplace law, arguing that inadequate support can cost women earnings, career opportunities and pension income. Its proposals include workplace risk assessments, flexible hours, remote work, manager training and practical adjustments such as temperature controls. The European Parliament is considering a draft report calling for stronger support and an EU strategy. The Commission’s gender equality plan includes menopause-related commitments, but no dedicated legislation has been proposed, and the parliamentary report has not been adopted.
