Thousands March in Culiacán Demanding an End to Cartel Violence

Thousands of residents marched through Culiacán, Sinaloa, on Sunday calling for an end to violence between rival factions of the Sinaloa cartel. Dressed in white, protesters carried photographs of missing relatives and signs demanding peace. The conflict has driven sharp increases in murders, disappearances, extortion, and robberies since it began two years ago. Relatives, businesses, civil society groups, and the Catholic Church organised the demonstration. A bishop urged the warring groups to value life over power, money, territory, and ambition.
