They entered through the rear door, and a home became a scene.

In the early hours of a Thursday morning, in a neighborhood known for its gates and its quiet, three masked figures entered a home through a rear door and brought with them a violence that residents of Bridle Path had perhaps believed belonged elsewhere. When it was over, a seventy-five-year-old father, his sixty-four-year-old wife, and their two adult daughters had been shot and struck with a hammer. The family survived. The neighborhood, and the city, did not emerge unchanged.

David Morton, chief executive of the MAC Group, confirmed the details of the attack in a statement issued Friday, thirty-six hours after the intrusion. Three masked individuals, he said, forcibly entered the residence armed with handguns and a hammer. Three members of the family were shot and are recovering in hospital. All four were attacked with the hammer, leaving everyone injured and requiring emergency medical attention . "It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home," Morton said .

Police have said the suspects entered the property on Hyde Park Circle, near Bayview and Lawrence avenues, at approximately 3:45 a.m. They demanded valuables before an altercation ensued, during which multiple firearms were discharged . The suspects fled in a dark-colored SUV and remain at large. Authorities have described them as men in their twenties, armed and dangerous, and have asked anyone with information or dash camera footage to come forward .

Two of the victims remained in hospital with what police described as life-altering injuries as of Thursday afternoon . The family has not released further details about the extent of those injuries, and Morton's statement asked for privacy while the family recovers. "We are a family, and our priority is getting through this together," he said . He also expressed concern about what he described as the increasing violence associated with home invasions and the safety of families throughout Toronto .

The Bridle Path incident marked the 119th home invasion reported to Toronto police this year, a figure up more than thirty percent from the same period in 2025 . Police Inspector Kristy Smith said the family was believed to have been targeted because they lived in an affluent area. "Typically, in an affluent neighbourhood comes nice things—and there's always people out there that want to acquire nice things," she said . The investigation is continuing, with specialized teams following leads and an increased police presence in the neighborhood.

There is a particular sorrow in a home invasion, a violation that reaches beyond property into the most private spaces of a life. The Morton family's statement, measured and gracious despite the circumstances, thanked first responders, hospital staff, and neighbors who reached out . It also asked for the privacy that any family recovering from such an experience would need. The request is not a withdrawal from the public conversation but a boundary drawn around the work of healing.

The suspects are still out there, and the police are asking for help. Anyone with information is urged to contact Toronto police or Crime Stoppers. The family, for now, is focused on recovery—on the slow, unglamorous work of mending what was broken in a place that was supposed to be safe.
