The 80-Year-Old Trafficker: Nigerian Authorities Seize Cocaine Hidden in Dried Fish

EKITI, Nigeria — In a case that has stunned veteran investigators, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the arrest of an 80-year-old man in Ekiti State. The octogenarian is accused of attempting to smuggle a significant cache of cocaine to India by concealing the illicit narcotics inside the heads of dried fish.

The breakthrough occurred during a targeted operation by NDLEA operatives who intercepted a suspicious cargo of traditional Nigerian foodstuffs destined for export. While the shipment appeared to be a standard collection of dried seafood, a detailed inspection revealed a highly sophisticated concealment method.
