HEBRON, West Bank — A severe terror attack unfolded on Friday morning at the Yehuda Junction along Route 35 near Hebron, leaving five people injured, two of them in critical condition, after two gunmen opened fire at an IDF post and nearby commuters. Both attackers were neutralized by security forces following a firefight.
According to preliminary reports from local emergency personnel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the attackers arrived in a vehicle bearing Israeli license plates at a local scrapyard near the military post. Armed with an M4 automatic rifle, a handgun, and a large supply of ammunition, the gunmen observed the area before dismounting and opening fire on nearby civilians and soldiers stationed at the junction.
Medical teams from Magen David Adom (MDA) responded immediately to active gunfire, providing emergency treatment at the scene under fire before transporting the casualties to regional trauma centers. Among the victims, two sustained severe traumas and remain in critical condition, while three additional individuals received treatment for light-to-moderate gunshot wounds and shrapnel injuries. During a swift response and tactical pursuit, IDF troops returned fire and killed both attackers, preventing further casualties.
Following situational assessments, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir commended the quick response of the squad-level unit, stating that their actions prevented a much larger disaster given the heavy volume of weapons and ammunition discovered in the suspects' vehicle.
In response to the attack, Israeli security forces implemented localized security checkpoints and initiated targeted closures around Hebron and surrounding access routes along Route 35 and Route 60 to inspect passing traffic and prevent potential secondary attacks. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the terror cell's network and origins.
As local authorities and intelligence agencies work to establish the background of the perpetrators, extra military units have been deployed across the West Bank to maintain heightened operational readiness. Community leaders and local officials have called for increased vigilance along major transit corridors, while security forces continue sweeping nearby villages for any potential accomplices or additional weapons caches connected to the assault.
