NORLANE, Australia — A quiet afternoon erupted into violence when a fatal altercation outside a suburban residence left a 30-year-old local man dead and sparked a massive police manhunt across the region.

Emergency services were called to Alkira Avenue in Norlane at approximately 12:40 PM on Monday, June 22, 2026 following reports of a severe physical dispute involving multiple individuals.

According to Victoria Police, the confrontation broke out on the street between three men and two women. During the violent clash, a 30-year-old Norlane man sustained critical stab wounds. Despite the rapid response of paramedics, his injuries proved fatal, and he tragically died at the scene.

A 28-year-old woman was also injured during the melee. She was treated by emergency responders and transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing three individuals—two men and a woman—fleeing the immediate area shortly after the stabbing took place, prompting an urgent broadcast to regional law enforcement units. Detectives from the Homicide Squad immediately locked down the neighborhood and launched an intensive investigation to track down the fleeing trio.

The initial breakthrough came later that evening when tactical officers located and arrested a 38-year-old Lovely Banks man. However, the remaining two suspects—a man and a woman—managed to flee further into the state, sparking a multi-town search.

The manhunt came to an end just before 5:00 AM the following morning, when highway patrol and local officers tracked the remaining fugitives to the regional hub of Horsham, located hundreds of kilometers away. A 28-year-old Corio woman and a 34-year-old Norlane man were taken into custody without further incident.

All three suspects are being interviewed by Homicide Squad detectives regarding their involvement in the deadly encounter. While a formal motive has not yet been detailed by authorities, police have confirmed they believe all parties involved were known to each other.
