MELBOURNE — Residents in one of Melbourne's most prestigious bayside suburbs were shaken awake in the early hours of the morning following a targeted arson attack on a multi-million-dollar estate in Brighton.
Emergency services rushed to the high-end property around 3:00 AM after callers reported flames engulfing the front entrance and driveway area of the mansion. Arson Squad detectives and forensic specialists believe multiple accelerants were deployed in a deliberate and highly organized attempt to inflict maximum destruction.
A prominent Melbourne business family was inside the home when the primary incendiary device detonated. Awakened by smashing glass, loud explosions, and blaring security alarms, the family members managed to escape through a rear exit into the backyard untouched by the initial blast.
Fire crews arrived within minutes to extinguish the blaze, preventing the fire from consuming the entire main residence. However, the front facade, security gates, and luxury vehicles parked in the driveway sustained extensive damage.
"It was an incredible shock—the sound was like a bomb going off," noted one neighbor who witnessed the aftermath. "To see an attack like this in a quiet neighborhood like Brighton is deeply disturbing."
Victoria Police arson detectives have secured the crime scene and gathered CCTV footage from surrounding properties. Initial evidence indicates that mask-wearing suspects pulled up in a stolen vehicle, poured accelerants onto the property, ignited the fire, and fled the scene at high speed.
Investigators have stressed that while the attack appears calculated and targeted, official motives remain under investigation as authorities explore potential links to broader arson incidents across Melbourne.
Extra police patrols have been deployed throughout the suburb while forensic teams examine residual evidence left at the gates. Authorities are appealing to anyone with dash cam footage or security video from the area around the time of the incident to step forward.
