Tensions Flare in West Bank as Israeli Forces Detain Two During Large-Scale Askar al-Jadid Raid

NABLUS, Occupied West Bank — Israeli forces conducted a large-scale overnight military raid on the Askar al-Jadid refugee camp east of Nablus, detaining two Palestinian residents and triggering confrontations across the densely populated area.

Dozens of armored military vehicles backed by infantry units entered the camp under the cover of darkness, surrounding multiple residential blocks and establishing a tight perimeter.

According to local sources and the Palestinian Prisoners' Media Office, troops forcibly entered several family homes, conducting extensive searches and field interrogations. During the operation, Israeli soldiers arrested two Palestinian men before taking them into custody to an undisclosed location.

Witnesses inside the camp reported that the military presence severely restricted civilian movement, with forces setting up temporary checkpoints at key exits and positioning snipers on rooftop structures overlooking the narrow alleyways.

The sudden incursion sparked widespread pushback from local youths, leading to intense confrontations throughout the morning. Israeli troops deployed tear gas canisters and stun grenades to disperse crowds gathered near the center of the camp.

Medical personnel from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society remained on standby near the camp’s entry points, treating several residents affected by tear gas inhalation. No live-fire casualties were immediately confirmed at the scene.

The raid on Askar al-Jadid is part of an ongoing wave of daily military operations carried out by Israeli forces across Palestinian towns and refugee camps in the northern West Bank.

Local rights organizations have repeatedly voiced concerns over the frequency of night raids in Nablus governorate, noting that the operations regularly cause widespread disruption to civilian infrastructure and heighten local tensions. Israeli military representatives maintain that the operations are targeted measures aimed at apprehending individuals suspected of involvement in security-related activities.

As morning broke, municipal workers and residents began clearing debris, spent tear gas canisters, and tire barricades left behind in the narrow thoroughfares. Community members gathered to assess structural damage to private properties following the searches, while local rights groups documented testimonies from impacted families to monitor the ongoing civilian toll of repeated security incursions in the region.
