TAYTAY, RIZAL — Twenty people were injured on Saturday morning, October 17, 2026 after a sand-loaded dump truck overshot a curved portion of the road and slammed into four oncoming vehicles, including a fully loaded passenger jeepney, along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Barangay Dolores.
According to the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO), the incident occurred at around 7:10 a.m. as the heavy dump truck was traveling down from Antipolo City toward the Tikling area. While negotiating a sharp curve, the driver lost control, causing the truck to cross into the opposing traffic lane and collide with an oncoming passenger jeepney, a Mitsubishi Xpander, a tricycle, and a motorcycle.
Emergency response teams from the Taytay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and local police units quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims.
Authorities confirmed that all five drivers of the involved vehicles, along with 15 passengers aboard the jeepney, sustained various minor injuries. The injured individuals were promptly evacuated and brought to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment.
The force of the collision blocked key sections of Ortigas Avenue Extension, forcing traffic authorities to temporarily close one lane to secure the crash site and allow heavy towing equipment to clear the wreckage. Both lanes were fully reopened to motorists by 2:00 p.m.
Investigators are currently examining the dump truck to determine whether mechanical failure, such as brake malfunction, or driver error caused the vehicle to overshoot. Meanwhile, the Taytay municipal government reminded all motorists traveling along the winding corridors of Rizal to strictly observe speed limits and maintain vehicle roadworthiness.
Local authorities noted that additional warning signs and speed humps may be evaluated for that stretch of Ortigas Avenue Extension, as community leaders urge stricter road-safety inspections for commercial heavy vehicles traversing the steep routes between Antipolo and Taytay.
