Tanzania announces first gas discovery in more than 10 years

Tanzania’s energy minister says three wells drilled in the Mnazi Bay gas block have found natural gas, a discovery expected to add to the country’s resources. The state-owned Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation and French producer Maurel & Prom drilled the wells in the Mtwara Region. Two are development wells and one is exploratory. Officials scheduled an event in Msimbati for October 26 and 27 to announce the amount discovered. The gas is intended for domestic power generation and industry, not export.
