Taiwan’s Population Projected to Nearly Halve by 2075, NDC Warns

Taiwan’s population is projected to fall from roughly 23 million today to about 11.6 million by 2075, according to the National Development Council. The forecast reflects persistently low birthrates, rising life expectancy and a shrinking working-age population. Older adults are expected to comprise a much larger share of residents, increasing pressure on healthcare, pensions and labor markets. Officials say Taiwan must strengthen childcare, immigration, housing and employment policies to address the demographic decline and sustain long-term economic growth over time.
