Syria Fears Imminent Israeli-Backed Druze Offensive in Sweida, Official Tells ‘Post’

A Syrian official told the Jerusalem Post that Damascus fears Druze armed groups in Sweida may launch an offensive against government forces in coming days. The official said armed groups are building up near front lines and claimed Israel is encouraging and supporting an operation. He also alleged Israeli reconnaissance flights over southern Syria had increased and that a helicopter delivered weapons and ammunition to Sweida. These assertions are claims by the Syrian official and were not independently verified. Damascus views Israeli military activity in Syria as violations of sovereignty.
