Sydney, Australia— One person was injured and a man was arrested after a crash in Sydney's Northern Beaches on November 1, 2026 that police said was linked to a domestic violence incident.
Officers were called to a residential street in the early evening. A car had hit a parked vehicle and then a fence. Inside, a woman was injured. Witnesses said shouting was heard before the impact. The driver did not leave the scene.
Paramedics treated the woman for head and chest injuries. She was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital. Police said her injuries are not life-threatening. The man, aged in his 30s, was detained at the roadside after a brief struggle.
Northern Beaches is usually quiet on a Saturday night. This street is lined with family homes and parked SUVs. Neighbors came out and saw police pulling a man from the driver's seat. Several filmed the arrest.
"This incident is being treated as domestic violence-related. We had received a call about an argument in a vehicle that was moving through the area," a NSW Police Force spokesperson said. The spokesperson said officers are investigating whether the crash was deliberate.
Domestic violence-related assaults drive a large share of police call-outs in New South Wales. Data shows more than 30 percent of weekend assault reports involve partners or ex-partners. Cars often become part of the incident.
Forensic officers examined the two damaged cars and the fence line. They took photos and measured skid marks. The airbags in the moving car had deployed. Alcohol testing was conducted at the scene. Results have not been released.
The arrested man was taken to Dee Why Police Station. He was expected to be charged with domestic violence-related offences and negligent driving. Police said an apprehended violence order application will be considered.
Support services were contacted for the injured woman. A case worker arrived at the hospital late Saturday. Police will not release further details to protect the investigation.
