Los Angeles, United States— A 35-year-old woman was killed and a 15-year-old girl was hospitalized after a stabbing inside a business suite in Van Nuys Thursday evening.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called around 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 16, 2026 to 15045 Burbank Blvd., Suite 4. Two females were found with stab wounds inside the location, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The teenager was taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to the LAPD spokesperson on scene.
Officers took a 34-year-old man into custody at the address. Police said he was detained inside the same suite where the victims were found. No weapon description was released publicly.
Detectives said late Thursday that the relationships between the man and the two victims were not yet known. Investigators were working to establish whether the three knew each other before the attack.
The LAPD added two points in its preliminary statement: the victims and the suspect were not homeless, and the incident was not gang-related. That clarification came as neighbors speculated about the suite, which sits among small businesses along Burbank Boulevard.
A detective on scene said, "We have a suspect in custody and we are speaking to witnesses who were in the immediate area. We do not have a motive yet."
The block remained closed for several hours while crime scene investigators photographed the interior and collected evidence. Employees from nearby storefronts watched as patrol cars blocked the parking lot entrance.
As of Oct. 17, 2026, the suspect was being held pending booking and the LAPD Van Nuys division continued its investigation. No charges had been formally announced.
