Sri Lanka coordinated the rescue of 40 Iranian sailors from 19 commercial ships in international waters off its coast after the Iranian embassy requested assistance through diplomatic channels, foreign ministry spokesman Thushara Rodrigo said. The sailors were experiencing unspecified medical emergencies. They were brought ashore at Galle Harbour, where they received treatment before being returned to Iran early Sunday. Authorities did not disclose details about the emergencies. Media reported that the vessels were US-sanctioned oil tankers, though officials did not confirm.
