This spring, residents and companies in Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin are poised to see a quiet transformation in how they connect to the world: ImOn Communications will begin expanding its 100 % fiber‑optic internet network into the region. The move marks ImOn’s first expansion into the Great Lakes area, bringing modern broadband infrastructure to communities that have long waited for cutting‑edge service.

The company plans to start construction this spring, weather permitting, and continue through 2026 as crews lay fiber lines that will bring multi‑gigabit speeds to the area for the first time. For homes, download and upload rates could reach up to 5 Gbps, while businesses may see up to 10 Gbps, supported by the reliability and low latency characteristic of fiber networks. Alongside internet service, ImOn will also offer fiber‑based phone service to customers in both cities.

Patrice Carroll, president and CEO of ImOn Communications, framed the expansion as a response to evolving technology needs: outdated infrastructure “can’t meet the demands of modern households and businesses,” she said, underscoring the importance of robust internet for work, education, and commerce today. The company worked closely with city officials during planning and design stages and will notify residents as construction progresses through neighborhoods.

Beyond raw speed, fiber internet’s symmetrical bandwidth and resilience are poised to support telecommuting, streaming, and cloud services more smoothly than older cable or DSL alternatives. For an area that borders two states and bridges diverse communities, ImOn’s deployment represents a significant infrastructure milestone — one that quietly reshapes how people live, work, and connect across the Twin Ports region.
