SpaceX Must Not Dominate European Telecom, EU Lawmaker Warns

Michał Kobosko, the European Parliament’s lead negotiator on the proposed Digital Networks Act, is calling for safeguards to prevent SpaceX from dominating Europe’s telecom market. His draft would require “sovereignty and resilience criteria” for pan-European mobile spectrum licenses. The debate has intensified after SpaceX bought U.S. licenses that could support direct-to-consumer mobile service and Starlink disruptions affected Ukrainian military communications. SpaceX already provides satellite broadband in Europe but has announced no broader European mobile offering. Parliament and EU governments must still negotiate the legislation.
