Southern Lebanon Strike: Two Dead After Airstrike Hits Border Village Near Israeli Frontier

Tyre, Lebanon— Two people were killed early Friday when an airstrike hit a house on the edge of a border village in southern Lebanon, according to the National News Agency. The strike landed shortly before dawn.

The agency identified the location as a small farming community less than two kilometers from the Blue Line. Residents said they heard a single, low pass overhead. Then the explosion.

Lebanese Army units moved to seal off the site. Soldiers blocked the main road and turned back journalists and ambulances at the checkpoint for nearly an hour. A security source said ordnance teams were checking for unexploded material.

Medics recovered two bodies from the rubble of what was left of a single-story home. The victims were not immediately named. Neighbors said the house belonged to a family that had stayed through months of intermittent fire.

“The roof collapsed completely. We pulled them out by hand,” one civil defense volunteer told NNA. He said no fighters were present in the area at the time of the strike.

NNA quoted a local mayor who said the village had received no prior warning. He called the strike “a direct hit on a civilian home.” The mayor said electricity and water lines were cut in the blast.

The Israeli military did not issue an immediate comment. Cross-border exchanges have intensified over the past two weeks, with both sides trading fire near border outposts. UNIFIL said it was aware of activity in the sector.

Forensic teams photographed the crater late Friday morning. The army said its investigation remains open. The bodies were taken to a hospital in Tyre for identification.
