Some Student Protests Banned in French Cities After Weekend Looting

French authorities banned some demonstrations planned for Thursday in Paris, Lyon, Lille and Grenoble after a weekend of clashes and looting. President Emmanuel Macron said the restrictions were intended to protect city centers, businesses and public buildings. Student groups said they would continue mobilizing despite the bans and school holidays. In Paris, the prohibition covered areas around government buildings, major train stations and districts hit by looting, and was set to remain in place until 8 p.m. local time. Officials were also preparing security measures for Saturday.
