BRISBANE, QLD — A series of violent carjacking and attempted thefts across Brisbane’s northern and western suburbs came to a dramatic end this week after a man allegedly led police on a six-hour crime spree that terrified local drivers. Authorities have charged a 28-year-old man following the high-stakes pursuit, which involved multiple stolen vehicles and several knifepoint confrontations.
The incident reportedly began in the early hours of Tuesday, May 12, 2026, when a black Range Rover was stolen from a residence on Mackellar Street in Teneriffe at approximately 1:30 am. For the next several hours, the suspect allegedly moved through various suburbs, targeting drivers at knifepoint.
The crime spree began in Teneriffe with the initial theft of a Range Rover from a private driveway. The stolen vehicle was later involved in a three-car collision with a Toyota Camry and a Subaru Crosstrek on Pinacle Street in Brendale at approximately 10:40 am, after which the driver allegedly fled the scene. Shortly following the crash, the rampage concluded on Leitchs Road when the vehicle struck a police car before finally coming to a halt.
Queensland Police units, including POLAIR, tracked the vehicle as it moved toward the Moreton Bay region. The spree ended when officers intercepted the vehicle on Leitchs Road, taking the 28-year-old driver and a 20-year-old female passenger into custody.
The 28-year-old New Farm man is facing multiple charges, including the unlawful use of a motor vehicle and the dangerous operation of a vehicle. Additionally, he has been charged with entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an indictable offence, as well as driving without a license and the possession of dangerous drugs.
The passenger, a woman from Morayfield, has also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and drug possession.
While no serious injuries were reported during the crashes or the arrests, the brazen nature of the midday threats has left the community on edge. The incident occurred amid Operation Yankee Forge, a six-month statewide initiative specifically targeting "high-harm" offences such as armed robbery and car theft to strengthen community safety.
The accused appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, as investigations into the full timeline of the six-hour spree continue.
