Siri Gets a New Brain: How Gemini Is Rewriting the Voice Assistant

In a striking turn for the world’s most widely used smartphone assistant, Apple is preparing to revamp Siri with Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence — a partnership that brings the language model driving one of the world’s top AI systems into the heart of Apple’s voice assistant this spring. The shift marks a new era in how digital assistants understand users, perform tasks, and interact with context — a leap from simple voice queries toward richer, agent-style assistance that feels conversational, personalized and capable of handling real-world tasks.

Here are the seven features insiders say the Gemini-powered Siri will bring when it arrives with iOS 26.4 (expected in March or April 2026):

Conversational World Knowledge: Siri will answer factual and general knowledge questions in a more natural, conversational way — summarizing information across the web and delivering it clearly when you ask about history, science, current events or other topics. Storytelling: The assistant will be able to tell stories or produce longer narrative replies, e.g., explaining a concept or summarizing a complex topic with more fluid language and structure. Emotional Support Responses: Beyond dry facts, the new Siri could offer supportive language and empathetic phrasing to users seeking comfort or reassurance in sensitive moments. Multi-Task Help and Booking: Powered by Gemini’s reasoning, Siri is expected to assist with complex tasks like booking travel, scheduling reservations, or orchestrating multi-step activities that previously required manual interaction across apps. Document Creation In Apps: Users may be able to generate structured documents directly inside native apps such as Notes, like turning a prompt into a formatted recipe or organized list without copying and pasting. Conversational Memory: The assistant will retain context from past interactions, enabling follow-ups that feel more natural — so you won’t have to repeat context you’ve already shared. Proactive Suggestions: Siri is expected to offer intelligent suggestions based on app context (like Calendar or Mail) and your ongoing activity, anticipating helpful actions before you explicitly ask. Behind the scenes, Apple has confirmed that Google’s Gemini foundation models and cloud technology will power this next generation of Siri and other Apple Intelligence features — an unusual collaboration between two longtime smartphone rivals. Siri will continue to operate with Apple’s privacy standards, including processing on Apple devices and in Apple’s Private Cloud Compute environment, while Gemini’s advanced reasoning and multimodal capabilities elevate Siri’s intelligence.

Though Apple hasn’t disclosed a full rollout timeline, many of these features are expected first with iOS 26.4, while additional capabilities may arrive later in iOS 27 or via announcements at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. With Gemini under Siri’s hood, the assistant is poised to become far more conversational, capable and context-aware — moving beyond simple commands into rich, personalized support across users’ digital lives.
