MELAKA, MALAYSIA — A 62-year-old Singaporean woman was among three people injured when an express tour bus bound for Kuala Lumpur veered off the road and overturned along Malaysia's North-South Expressway near Jasin, Melaka, early Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026.
The accident occurred around 5:00 a.m. at the 177.6-kilometer mark of the northbound highway. According to Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Robert, the bus—carrying 12 people from Singapore to the Malaysian capital—was attempting to avoid a slow-moving lorry ahead when the 31-year-old driver lost control. The vehicle swerved off the left side of the asphalt and flipped onto its side on a grass embankment bordering the highway.
The crash left three passengers injured: the 62-year-old Singaporean woman, a 59-year-old Malaysian tour guide, and a 42-year-old British national. Emergency responders quickly dispatched the victims to Jasin Hospital, where they received medical treatment for head lacerations, contusions, and leg injuries. The bus driver and eight remaining passengers escaped without injury.
Footage and photos shared on social media by eyewitnesses showed passengers extricating themselves from the overturned vehicle through an open roof emergency escape hatch while awaiting medical assistance on the roadside grass.
Travel agency representatives confirmed that a relief vehicle was dispatched shortly after the crash to transport the remaining uninjured passengers to Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian highway police have opened an investigation into the crash to evaluate driver reaction times, vehicle speeds, and road visibility conditions at the time of the incident.
The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the injured Singaporean national and her family through the Singapore Consulate-General in Johor Bahru. Local authorities and expressway operators have since towed the damaged bus to a nearby impound yard for forensic analysis, while traffic along the affected northbound lane has fully normalized following the prompt clearance of vehicle wreckage.
