Singapore’s AI Frontier Expands: Anthropic Opens a Southeast Asian Base as Claude Adoption Accelerates

Singapore has spent years building itself into a meeting point for technology, finance and international business. Now another chapter of that transformation is taking shape as Anthropic prepares to establish its first Southeast Asian base in the city-state.

The company behind Claude plans to open its Singapore office in October 2026. The location will become Anthropic’s fifth Asia-Pacific office, following its existing operations in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney.

Anthropic intends to use Singapore as its Southeast Asian headquarters, supporting customers and partners across the region. Dale Finlay, a former Google Cloud executive, has been appointed general manager for ASEAN and will oversee the local operation.

The decision is closely connected to the level of Claude usage in Singapore. Anthropic’s Economic Index ranked Singapore second among 121 countries for Claude usage per capita, at about 5.81 times the level expected from its population size.

That usage pattern gives the company a practical reason to establish a physical presence. Singapore is home to multinational corporations, financial institutions, technology companies and government agencies that are increasingly exploring artificial-intelligence applications.

The company is also hiring locally. Anthropic’s careers listings have included positions spanning applied AI, finance, marketing, economic research and commercial functions, suggesting that the office is intended to support more than a narrow sales operation.

The expansion arrives as businesses across Southeast Asia move from experimenting with AI toward integrating it into daily operations. For companies in regulated industries, questions surrounding data, governance and trust can be as important as the capabilities of the models themselves.

Finlay has said that trust is a central consideration for AI adoption in Southeast Asia. A regional office can give Anthropic a closer relationship with customers while allowing the company to understand the different regulatory and business environments across ASEAN markets.

Anthropic has not disclosed the eventual size of its Singapore workforce or the total investment planned for the office. Those details will help determine the scale of the company’s longer-term regional presence.

For now, the Singapore office marks another physical sign of a technology shift that increasingly connects software with geography. As Claude usage grows across Southeast Asia, Anthropic is placing people closer to the businesses and institutions that are deciding how artificial intelligence will become part of their working world.
