Shop Freezers in Seven European Countries Hit by Cyberattack

Supermarkets in Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Ireland, the Netherlands, Estonia and Finland were affected by cyberattacks on refrigeration systems. In Belgium and Luxembourg, around 40 Delhaize stores were hit; other retailers, including Irish SuperValu and Swedish ICA and Coop branches, also reported incidents. Affected units were switched into defrost mode, raising temperatures and spoiling food. Sabcobel, which operates some Delhaize systems, said the incidents were cyberattacks and it was disconnecting affected equipment. Authorities have not identified who was responsible.
