Severe Flooding In Southern Iran: Sudden Water Surge In Fars Province Wounds Two Villagers

Shiraz, Iran—Severe flash floods triggered by sudden cloudbursts swept across agricultural hamlets in Fars Province today, injuring two villagers and drowning dozens of head of livestock. Raging torrents rushed down mountain slopes, tearing through animal pens, destroying irrigation canals, and inundating rural farmsteads. Villagers scrambled to higher ground as water levels rose sharply within minutes.

Red Crescent emergency teams and local volunteers deployed to the flooded sector to assist displaced families and clear debris. Paramedics treated two villagers for limb fractures and severe bruises sustained while attempting to rescue livestock from fast-moving floodwaters. Medical staff confirmed both individuals were stabilized at a district health center.

According to a report published by the Student News Agency (ISNA), unseasonably heavy rain bursts deposited massive rainfall volumes across surrounding mountain watersheds, causing natural drainage basins to overflow. Fast-moving water swept through agricultural pastures, washing away livestock herds, agricultural tools, and local grain stores.

"The water came down the valley like a wall of mud, knocking down mud walls and carrying off animals," said a local livestock owner whose farm was inundated. "There was no warning before the riverbed overflowed its banks."

Civil defense teams deployed earth-moving machinery to clear mud deposits, uprooted trees, and debris blocking primary access roads into the affected rural townships. Emergency crews distributed clean drinking water, temporary shelter tents, and blankets to farm families whose homes suffered structural water damage.

Rural regions in southern Iran face extreme risks during seasonal rain events due to soil erosion, lack of vegetation, and inadequate flood drainage infrastructure. Unprotected riverbanks and unpaved rural roads leave farming communities vulnerable to destructive water surges.

Municipal officials in Fars Province urged rural residents and nomadic herders to stay clear of seasonal dry riverbeds and low-lying valleys while atmospheric instabilities persist over the province.

Disaster response teams remain in the affected villages, assessing agricultural losses and clearing water channels to prevent secondary flooding from potential overnight rains.
