A senior figure from Poland’s former Law and Justice (PiS) government has been detained over alleged involvement in a media campaign that attacked judges. Investigators say the case centers on spending connected to the Polish National Foundation (PFN), which funded the 2017 “Fair Courts” campaign promoting PiS’s judicial overhaul. Prosecutors allege the campaign caused millions of zloty in financial harm and aimed to discredit independent courts. Two former foundation board members were detained; one remained in custody while others faced charges.
