Security Stepped Up in India’s Capital for ‘Cockroach’ Movement Rally

Delhi increased security for a Friday rally by the Cockroach Janta Party. Organizers planned to gather at Central Park in Connaught Place, demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over a voter list revision. Critics say the changes favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party; the Election Commission denies political bias. Authorities closed the park for two days and urged people not to join the assembly. Police also detained CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke Friday. Police had issued warnings to Dipke earlier.
