Scientists Discover Frog-Gut Bacterium That Eliminated Cancer Tumors in Mice

Researchers at Japan’s Advanced Institute of Science and Technology identified Ewingella americana in the intestines of Japanese tree frogs. In a mouse model of colorectal cancer, one intravenous dose produced complete tumor elimination in all treated animals. The bacterium appeared to attack cancer cells directly while also activating immune responses. However, the findings remain preclinical: the study involved mice, not humans, and used a specific tumor model. Further research is needed to assess safety, effectiveness, and possible clinical applications later.
