Saudi Arabia Discovers 110 Million Tonnes of Uranium-Bearing Ore in Medina

Saudi Arabia has reported discovering about 110 million tonnes of raw material containing uranium concentrations at the Jabal Sayid project in the Medina region. Geological studies also identified high concentrations of rare earth elements, including heavy rare earths. Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced the findings at an IAEA conference in Vienna. The discovery could support Riyadh’s plans to develop domestic uranium resources and a civilian nuclear program, although the amount recoverable and the project’s commercial viability remain uncertain.
