SAN BERNARDINO, CA — A destructive three-alarm fire ripped through a local strip mall on Mountain View Avenue late on Friday evening, July 17, 2026 drawing an aggressive emergency response from dozens of firefighters as heavy smoke and severe ember cast threatened nearby properties.

Emergency dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a structural fire at a multi-unit, single-story commercial strip mall.

First-arriving crews from the San Bernardino County Fire Department encountered heavy smoke and flames already breaking through the roof of the sprawling complex. Recognizing the immediate risk of lateral spread to adjacent storefronts, incident commanders quickly upgraded the call to a second, and then a third alarm, drawing approximately 60 firefighters to the scene.

The intense thermal energy created a significant ember cast that carried across the neighborhood, forcing crews to simultaneously battle the primary structure fire and guard adjacent properties. The fire rapidly established a foothold in five individual business units. Flames quickly spread outward, igniting several large palm trees and encroaching upon nearby storage buildings.
