Calls for tighter safety checks on appliances in holiday accommodation followed the death of an Irish teenager, Alex McKee, electrocuted while picking up a showerhead in a rudimentary outdoor bathroom on the Greek island of Kimolos. Police and investigators focused on the property’s water heater and possible wiring faults, including whether the fuse box had the proper safety protection. An autopsy in Piraeus attributed death to electrocution. The family signalled it may pursue legal action.
