ZAPORIZHZHIA / POLTAVA REGION, Ukraine — Russian forces launched a series of overnight missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, killing civilians and hitting residential and infrastructure targets in multiple regions, Ukrainian officials say.
The attacks included strikes in Zaporizhzhia, where at least one person was killed and five others wounded, and damage was reported to several apartment buildings and other structures. In the Poltava region, two more civilians were among those killed and residents reported damage to homes and a hotel.
The broad assault — involving both drones and missiles — also caused widespread destruction to residential and non residential buildings throughout affected regions, prompting emergency services to battle fires and conduct rescue operations.
Authorities described the strikes as part of an intensified campaign by Russian forces that has persistently targeted Ukrainian population centers and infrastructure. Local leaders emphasized the risk to civilians, with some residential high rises sustaining significant damage in recent attacks.
The strikes follow warnings of increased offensive activity and have underscored the humanitarian toll of the conflict, with many Ukrainian cities left grappling with casualties, displacement, and damage to essential services.
Ukrainian officials and international partners have condemned the strikes, calling for reinforcement of air defenses and renewed diplomatic efforts to protect civilian populations as fighting continues.
