Russian FAB-500 Bomb Hits Sloviansk Apartment Block, Leaving 4 Injured and Dozens of Homes Damaged

A devastating airstrike hit a residential neighborhood in Sloviansk after Russian forces dropped a heavy FAB-500 aerial bomb, striking a multi-story apartment block. The attack left four civilians injured and caused extensive damage to surrounding infrastructure, marking another severe escalation in targeted strikes against civilian areas in the region.

The powerful high-explosive ordnance struck the residential complex without warning, causing severe structural damage and triggering intense fires across multiple apartment units. The blast wave shattered windows, blew out interior walls, and rained heavy debris onto the streets below.

Emergency services quickly descended on the site to rescue residents trapped beneath the rubble and extinguish localized fires started by the impact.

"The impact was deafening, and the entire building shook to its foundation," reported a local resident who survived the strike. "People were screaming in the dark as dust filled the corridors. It is pure luck that more lives weren't lost."

Local authorities immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to assess the full extent of the devastation and treat those impacted by the blast.

Four residents sustained varied injuries, including shrapnel wounds and blast trauma, and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment following the strike. The explosion caused extensive property damage, leaving at least 34 residential homes and apartment units with major structural destruction, rendering many temporarily uninhabitable. Additionally, the blast incinerated or heavily damaged six civilian cars parked along the perimeter of the building.

Military analysts note that the use of the FAB-500—a 500-kilogram air-dropped bomb equipped with high-explosive warheads—causes catastrophic destruction when deployed against urban centers. Local officials condemned the deliberate targeting of non-military targets, assuring residents that emergency restoration efforts, utility repairs, and temporary housing assistance are already underway for families displaced by the attack.

As humanitarian teams continue clearing debris, regional human rights advocates are documenting the strike to present further evidence of targeted civilian destruction to international oversight bodies.
