DNIPRO, Ukraine — A wave of Russian drone strikes targeted the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro and the neighboring city of Samar overnight, leaving at least three people injured and setting multiple critical infrastructure facilities ablaze.
The attack unfolded during the early morning hours when Ukrainian Air Force air-defense systems detected multiple groups of Iranian-designed Shahed and jet-powered attack drones flying toward the Dnipropetrovsk region. Despite interception efforts, strike remnants and direct impacts triggered heavy destruction in residential and industrial zones.
According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the strikes ignited fires across several locations in Dnipro. Flames engulfed the roof of a private residential home and destroyed several adjacent private garages. Simultaneously, intense fires broke out at local critical infrastructure facilities following direct hits and falling debris.
Paramedics and emergency responders were dispatched across the city as thick smoke billowed into the night sky. Three individuals sustained injuries during the barrage and received immediate medical care on-site and at regional hospitals.
Crews from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine worked through the morning to extinguish the remaining blazes at the hit infrastructure sites and secure residential neighborhoods. Local authorities continue to assess the full extent of structural damage as technicians evaluate the impact on power and municipal utility networks across the region.
The barrage forms part of a broader pattern of escalated aerial strikes aimed at destabilizing power generation and heating networks across central Ukraine as winter approaches. Energy workers and repair crews have been mobilized under emergency protocols to reinforce power grids and mitigate service disruptions for nearby residents following the continuous shelling.
Regional leaders and military officials reiterated calls for strengthened air-defense coverage over key population centers, highlighting the increasing reliance on long-range loitering munitions to strain Ukrainian defensive lines. Meanwhile, local authorities in both Dnipro and Samar are coordinating with international humanitarian partners to provide temporary emergency shelter and repair materials to affected households.
