Russian Airstrike Hits Sloviansk: 8 Injured as Missiles Strike Residential Zone

SLOVIANSK, UKRAINE — At least eight people have been injured after Russian forces launched a devastating aerial bombardment targeting a dense residential area in Sloviansk, located in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region.

According to local military administration officials, the strike occurred in the morning hours when guided aerial bombs slammed directly into high-rise apartment blocks. The heavy blast partially destroyed two multi-story residential buildings, blowing out windows, shattering walls, and scattering debris across nearby streets and commercial storefronts.

"The enemy carried out an airstrike on a civilian neighborhood in Sloviansk, hitting multi-story housing where people were in their homes," confirmed Vadym Lyakh, head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration.

At least eight civilians sustained injuries of varying severity from flying shrapnel and collapsing structures. Emergency medical crews arrived rapidly at the scene to provide first aid and transport several hospitalized victims to regional medical care facilities.

State Emergency Service workers and rescue teams immediately deployed search dogs and heavy machinery to sift through the rubble, as officials feared individuals might remain trapped under fallen concrete slabs.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, reiterating calls for international partners to strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities to shield front-line communities from continuing aerial bombardments.

The attack has further heightened tensions and fears among the remaining residents of Sloviansk, a key urban center in Donetsk Oblast that has faced persistent shelling due to its proximity to active front lines. Municipal workers were dispatched alongside emergency responders to restore damaged power lines and clear debris from major thoroughfares to allow emergency access.

Local humanitarian organizations have set up temporary aid stations near the blast site to distribute emergency supplies, warm blankets, and psychological support to residents whose homes were rendered uninhabitable. Authorities continue to urge residents in vulnerable front-line settlements to utilize government-arranged evacuation routes as hostilities across the region persist.
