Russia’s Defense Ministry said Sunday it would intensify strikes on military facilities, defense-industry sites, and related infrastructure in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine. The announcement followed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s pledge to increase attacks on Russian oil refineries in response to Moscow’s air campaign. Russia said its strikes were retaliation for alleged Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets inside Russia. Recent attacks have damaged Kyiv bridges and disrupted life for millions, while both governments deny deliberately directly targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.
