Ukrainian police say explosive devices, including grenades, have been discovered repeatedly inside the bodies of Ukrainian servicemen repatriated from Russia.
In an interview reported by Ukrinform, Taras Tarasenko—deputy head of the investigative unit for crimes against life and health at the National Police directorate in the Kirovohrad region—said that after bodies are returned, investigators first conduct an initial inspection specifically to check for items that could be dangerous. He said such cases have occurred multiple times, with police finding explosive objects and grenades during these preliminary checks.
After the safety check, investigators move on to identity work, including searching for documents and personal items used for identification, and then performing more detailed forensic examination.
The report also notes that when large batches of bodies arrive for examination, teams must work through them quickly while still carrying out the necessary safety procedures and subsequent forensic steps.
