Russia may use renewed Ukraine peace talks to seek concessions on NATO’s military presence in Europe, The Telegraph reported, citing diplomatic sources. One possible demand would be a return to NATO’s 1997 configuration, potentially requiring allied troops to leave Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland. The reported proposal has not been officially confirmed or added to the talks’ agenda. Russia has previously called NATO expansion a threat, while European officials have opposed a military pullback. Ukraine, Russia and the United States are expected to resume technical talks in November.
