Russia Interfered in Brexit Vote, UK Prime Minister Says for First Time

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he was given “the clear answer that yes, there was” Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum. He made the remarks in an interview for The Rest Is Politics podcast, due to be released October 12. Burnham said he wanted the issue placed on the public record and discussed foreign disinformation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. A 2020 parliamentary intelligence committee report criticised the government for not fully assessing possible Russian activity, but did not establish that interference changed the result.
