Iliana Yotova, Bulgaria’s acting president, won the Nov. 1 presidential runoff with 57.58% of votes counted, defeating former interim Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov, who received 39.47%. With 99.95% of polling station protocols processed, the result gives Yotova a five-year term and makes her the country’s first elected female head of state. She opposes military aid to Ukraine and favors dialogue with Moscow. The presidency is ceremonial but can appoint interim governments and veto legislation. Turnout was low at about 27–29%.
