DAMAZIN, Sudan — In a dramatic escalation of Sudan’s ongoing civil conflict, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a series of targeted drone strikes on Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile State, hitting key political and infrastructure sites, including the governor's residence.
eyewitnesses and military sources reported that a swarm of one-way attack drones swept into Damazin during the evening hours. Air defense systems operated by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) attempted to intercept the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), sending tracer fire ringing across the city.
Despite anti-aircraft counter-measures, several strike drones penetrated local defenses. Among the primary targets was the official residence of the Blue Nile State Governor. The extent of the structural damage to the governor's home and the immediate safety status of government personnel remain under tight security assessment, though military officials quickly secured the surrounding government quarter.
Beyond political targets, the drone offensive struck critical civilian facilities across Damazin. Strikes were reported at four local fuel stations, triggering blazes and sending thick plumes of smoke over residential sectors.
Local medical sources confirmed that at least five civilians were killed and multiple others sustained injuries during the attack on the city's commercial and residential zones.
The SAF's 4th Infantry Division, headquartered in the region, issued a statement condemning the operation, accusing the RSF of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure to instill panic and destabilize one of the country's key southern strongholds. Commanding officers toured the impacted districts shortly after to assess structural damage and coordinate emergency responses.
The attack on Damazin marks a widening of the active conflict front into areas that had previously managed relative stability compared to the heavy fighting in Khartoum, Darfur, and Kordofan.
Blue Nile State has recently seen an influx of thousands of displaced families fleeing intensified clashes in neighboring southern and western districts like Kurmuk and Geissan. The deployment of long-range strike drones against high-profile targets in Damazin signals the RSF's intent to stretch SAF defensive lines and disrupt local government authorities.
As emergency crews continue clearance operations around the strike zones, security forces across Blue Nile State remain on high alert for follow-up aerial incursions.
