RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — A violent sequence of events on Friday morning culminated in a fatal officer-involved shooting after an armed suspect assaulted a woman and subsequently confronted arriving law enforcement officers. The incident has left a neighborhood blocked off as multiple agencies launch an investigation into the deadly encounter.

According to initial statements from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, emergency dispatchers received an urgent call early Friday morning regarding a domestic disturbance and physical assault in progress. Callers reported that a man was actively attacking a woman in a residential area, using a large rock as a weapon.

Deputies rushed to the scene, where they located the female victim suffering from injuries sustained during the brutal assault. Paramedics were immediately requested to provide medical aid to the woman, who was later transported to a local hospital. Her current condition has not yet been disclosed.

As deputies attempted to locate and detain the male suspect, the situation rapidly escalated. Authorities encountered the man nearby, at which point he pulled out a knife and refused to comply with the officers' repeated commands to drop the weapon.

Despite multiple attempts by law enforcement to de-escalate the confrontation using verbal commands, the suspect reportedly advanced toward the deputies in an aggressive manner, brandishing the knife. Fearing for their safety and the safety of bystanders in the immediate area, deputies opened fire, striking the suspect.

Deputies on the scene immediately rendered life-saving medical measures until emergency medical personnel arrived. However, the suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Per standard department policy, the involved deputies will be placed on administrative leave. The Riverside County Sheriff's Force Investigation Detail, in conjunction with the local District Attorney’s Office, has taken over the active and ongoing investigation to determine the exact timeline and legal parameters of the lethal use of force.
