INTERNATIONAL FINANCE — Ripple Labs, the blockchain company best known for its development of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), has entered a strategic partnership with Aviva Investors, a major European asset management firm, to explore tokenizing traditional fund structures on blockchain infrastructure.
The collaboration represents a significant milestone both for Ripple — marking its first major agreement with a Europe based asset manager — and for Aviva Investors, which is making its first foray into blockchain based fund structures. By leveraging XRPL’s native token issuance and settlement capabilities, the initiative aims to bring regulated financial products such as investment funds on chain, potentially transforming how these instruments are issued, managed, and traded.
Under the agreement:
• Ripple will support Aviva Investors in issuing tokenized versions of traditional funds on the XRP Ledger, bridging legacy investment products into blockchain form.
• The XRPL’s fast, low fee, and energy efficient infrastructure is expected to help improve operational efficiency, transparency, and settlement speed compared with traditional fund administration systems.
• Both companies will work throughout 2026 and beyond on developing scalable tokenization solutions aimed at institutional clients.
Aviva Investors, the asset management arm of British insurer Aviva Plc with hundreds of billions in assets under management, has stated that tokenization could reduce costs and processing times associated with conventional fund operations and create broader access for investors. Jill Barber, Chief Distribution Officer at Aviva Investors, said the firm sees many benefits that tokenization can bring to investors, including enhanced time and cost efficiency.
For Ripple, the deal underscores its push to bring real world assets (RWAs) and regulated financial products onto the XRPL. Ripple executives see the collaboration as evidence that large institutional players are moving blockchain solutions beyond experimentation toward practical, production level use.
The partnership marks a key step in the maturation of tokenization in global finance. Traditional investment funds — once bound by legacy systems and lengthy settlement cycles — could benefit from on chain operations that reduce friction and improve transparency. Experts say that such collaborations may ultimately draw more institutions into blockchain based finance and accelerate broader adoption of tokenized asset markets.
Ripple’s XRPL has processed billions of transactions since its inception and supports millions of active wallets, making it one of the more established public blockchains for institutional tokenization projects.
The Aviva partnership builds on this foundation while positioning Ripple as a facilitator of blockchain innovation in mainstream finance.
