Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russia was prepared for a war with Europe but did not want one, warning that escalation would leave no winners. Speaking after a Russia-Africa summit, he criticized European preparations for a possible conflict by 2030 and said Russia was ready to respond if challenged. He also said Moscow supported steps to restore relations with European countries. Putin’s remarks followed phone conversations with Finland’s Alexander Stubb and Norway’s Jonas Gahr Støre, who reportedly initiated discussions about regional tensions and relations with Russia.
