Projectile Hits Saudi Airport Infrastructure: Three Civilians Killed, Thirty-Six Wounded in Cross-Border Attack

Jazan, Saudi Arabia— Airport infrastructure came under cross-border projectile fire, with hits that killed three civilians and wounded 36 others inside the facility complex.

The attack occurred on October 24 during a busy operational period. According to initial statements, several projectiles were launched toward the airport. Air defenses intercepted some, but at least one struck near a civilian terminal area and service zone.

The three fatalities were identified as civilians present in the airport grounds, including passengers and support staff. The 36 wounded suffered shrapnel and blast injuries. Medical teams moved the injured to nearby hospitals, with several requiring surgery.

Airport operations were suspended immediately after the strike. Flights were diverted and departures delayed while explosive ordnance teams swept runways and buildings. Damage was visible on roofing panels and parked service vehicles.

"We responded to reports of projectile impacts within the airport perimeter," a civil defense spokesperson said. "Three civilians were killed and 36 injured. The site has been secured and damage assessment is ongoing." Officials did not name the origin of the fire.

Security was tightened at the facility and at other airports in the southern region. Additional air defense units were placed on alert. The attack follows a pattern of cross-border strikes targeting aviation and energy infrastructure in recent months.

Travelers described panic inside the terminal. One witness said people dropped to the floor after hearing a sharp whistling sound followed by a blast near the arrivals hall. Glass doors shattered and luggage was scattered.

Authorities urged civilians to avoid the airport area and follow official updates on flight schedules. The General Authority of Civil Aviation said structural engineers would inspect the terminal before full reopening.

The incident has raised concerns about civilian risk at transport hubs close to border areas. Commercial airports serve both domestic and international routes, with high passenger density during daylight hours.

Investigations continue into the type of projectiles used and whether further launches are expected. The airport remained partially closed into the evening.
